Over the past few months I have been working with Manya Jewelers in Santa Clarita CA. I am creating a series of designs  to become earrings, rings and other beautiful forms of jewelery!  Harut Nazarian is the talented artists that is hand crafting all of the sterling silver jewelery.
This all started when I was approached about doing a logo for the new store Manya and Harut opened at the Westfield Mall in Santa Clarita CA.
We came up with an image based on a beautiful piece of jewelery that was designed by Manya.  I added a couple of my own touches and created the "unconventional" clover that Manya requested, and viola!!  They were very pleased and wanted me to produce some illustrations based on some ideas Harut had been thinking about.
I could not ask for a better artist to work with and subject matter an artist like my self cannot pass up!!
The first piece to be created was the "Heart Grenade" necklace.  It only lasted a few hours in the store before it was snatched up.  The obvious next step was earrings.  They have all turned out beautifully!
I have completed a couple other designs and anxiously wait to see them come to life.

After a week on the road with my lovely wife, I am back in the studio.
Every Thanksgiving we set out from Los Angeles and head for Denver Colorado. It is 18 hours of fun, that is, until the sun goes down. In Utah we chase the sun for fear the zombies will crawl out of the desert and make a meal out of us when it gets dark. This rarely happens, but the road becomes a black hole with the occasional sedan sized Elk or Deer carcass on the road that will scare the ever lovin shit out of ya!! I am pretty sure Utah is what an alien planet is like. I asked the wife if she would tell anyone if we saw a U.F.O. I warned her, if she did, we run the risk of being "that couple". She said she would tell people she saw an unidentified flying aircraft. A U.F.A. Cause that's less crazy.
I also wonder what it's like to be born, live and die in Green River Utah. From what I can tell, parties at the Super 8 are definitely on the agenda and you probably have seen a dead body.
On many occasions you can see cars driving off the freeway and out into Wylie Coyote's backyard. This makes the wife and I wonder, WTF ?! Where are ya going?!

Then last year I was going to use the toilet at the 'Black Dragon Canyon' rest stop and I was approached by a man resembling Santa. Actually, he had a chihuahua and was looking for weed so, it was totally Santa!! He made me nervous because, he was alright with following me into the can and talking to me whilst I used the urinal. I never took my eyes off him. I ain't getting my head smacked into the wall and waking up with a red rubber ball in my mouth! Thankfully this was not the outcome. He did however direct us to the Thompson Springs exit where we were told to drive for about 20 minutes into the desert.
So we did.
Very cool stuff was in them mountains! On the rocks are pictographs that date back to 2000 B.C. and a hidden rock arch! Amazing! A great detour, thanks Weed Santa! Another bonus is, you get to go through a little bit of a ghost town. The diner looked like people were in there havin breakfast and then they just vanished. Vanished!!! The motel next to the diner had no doors and one of the rooms had been spray painted with "I Live Here" on the wall. I still believe this was Santa' s "workshop".
Bottom line is, taking advice from a vagrant and driving off into the desert on a quarter tank of gas, is far less scary than looking for the Wendy's in North Las Vegas.

Then we went to Beaver!!

Well here I am in beautiful Southern California hopped up on coffee and unable to turn of my brain. Seems to me that just when I think I have some time to relax, I find myself working on some new project. Maybe that is relaxing and I just haven't figured it out yet.

I have created some new pieces for the Dick's Chicks poster series. For some reason I am on a roller derby kick.

This is my "Green Fuzz Derby Girl." She will be available on my website after Thanksgiving. I really love finding unique perspective and poses as it adds something dramatic to the overall look.
Another girl that is in progress and will be available after Thanksgiving is my ode to cartoon chicks.

She's a cutie, although my wife still doesn't get the whole cartoon thing, I dig it.
Well there it is I finally updated my blog. I really should do this more often but I would rather be drawing!!
More to come!!

Over the past few months I have had the pleasure of working with a variety of businesses and friends.

First was Auto Detail Chicago.

Owned and operated by Jay Phillips, a Certified Professional Detailer. Jay had a couple of ideas of the basic look and I added a touch of Dick to make him a logo he is very happy with. He has since launched his revamped website with new logo attached along with new uniform shirts for all the guys in his crew and new business cards. I have heard talk of a hot air balloon with the logo, and I am REAL excited about that idea!!

Another Chicago based friend and long time Dick supporter is Bird's Nest.
A favorite watering hole of mine and a place I called home for a good portion of my twenties.

A few different projects were thrown my way. The bar needed a design for some new pint glasses as well as a face lift for an old logo design I made a few years ago. I was then able to apply this image to a print ad and tee shirt that will show their sponsorship in the upcoming benefit for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at the Columbia Yacht Club in Chicago.

Below are the images used for the Pints and so forth. Click the image to go to the Bird's Nest website

Closer to home, I have done a logo for The Latch Key Kids.
This hilarious group of writers, actors, directors, producers and all things L.A. are creating a buzz on Funny or Die. I created this logo from a photo provide by Jim and also painted a house warming gift for he and his wife. Click the image to see The Latch Key Kids on Funny or Die.

Another L.A Based project has been Sparky Photography. Sparky is a long time friend and his idea was and still is great. He is a talented artist and his work is beautiful. Click the mustache to see Sparky's work!!

I was also fortunate enough to be able to design a tribute tattoo for a friend who recently lost her father. She and her sister chose a more humorous route and I loved every second of drawing these for each of them.

Lastly is a convention kit that I designed for Tinsley Transfers. The "eco" bag came stuffed with a tee shirt, 18x24 poster and a bunch of the best temporary tattoos money can buy. I have also designed new lines of tattoos, some of which can be seen below. I have had the pleasure of working with Tinsley for almost 2 years now and love the freedom they allow me. I also worked on some movies!! Here is a couple, more to come on that side of things later.

That just about covers the logo and design work!! If you are in need of something and like what you have seen visit me at my site by clicking the banner below or email DICK@DICKCHERRY.COM

Over the past month I have had the privilege of being part of two amazing charity events.

The first painting was sent to Vintage Torque Fest to benefit Helping Hannas Heart. The surfers cross looked great and I am excited that it was part of this modern day hot rod culture event!!

The second painting went to Carmel IN to The Cruse Foundation charity event for Riley Children's Hospital. The event was a Kentucky Derby party. I painted Buster, a horse I owned when I was younger.

I was not sure if he was going to make it there on time, due to postal delays, but the wife's positive energy works every time. He showed up three hours before start time and was a big success!! I am just happy he was able to bring in something to help any of the children that may need it.

25 Limited edition signed and numbered prints are available at

I am also looking forward to the release of The Hangover PartII. In the movie I recreated Mike Tyson's famous Maori inspired face tattoo for use on Ed Helms. The tattoo was originally inked by S. Victor Whitmill. I also have a couple of designs on the cameo....I think.

That all for now!!
